Carlow Irish Stout

Pours a dark colour with a good lasting tanned head. Aroma is of roasted malts. Taste is a smoky one, roasted malts, a little chocolate, coffee and, at the back, a blackcurrant note. Pleasant bitterness. Smooth mouth feel. Reminds me of Guinness original but more creamy like Murphy's. 4,5% Strength.

Rating: Good.

Overall: A true Irish stout.

Wells Banana Bread Beer

Pours a clear coper-amber colour with a good lasting head. Aroma is dominated by sweet banana-like toffee candy, and soft butter with a little dough. Tastes better than it smells, the banana is well balanced with a white bread flavour and, in the background, a bitter spicy note. Crisp mouth feel. The banana taste lingers with a slight hop bitterness. 5,2% Strength.

Rating: Good.

Courage Directors

Pours an amber colour with a lasting amber head. Aroma is malt dominated; sweet malt with a little caramel. Tastes of cereal bread-like malt at first then a citrus pine like notes. Moderate bitterness. Has a citrus soft bitter finish. 4,8% strength.

Rating: Not bad.

Overall: Balanced ale with no surprises.

Castle Rock Harvest Pale

Pours a pale golden colour with a small lingering head. Aroma is full on bitter citrus noted hops. Tastes of hops, grass notes, and sweet malts. Moderate bitterness. Average light body. Has a dry finish. 4,3% strength.

Rating: Good.

Overall: Refreshing Blond Ale from Nottingham.

Jennings Sneck Lifter

"In northern dialect sneck means door latch and a sneck lifter was a man’s last sixpence which enabled him to lift the latch of a pub door and buy himself a pint, hoping to meet friends there who might treat him to one or two more."
Who knew you could learn words and phrases from a beer bottle.

Pours a deep ruby red colour with a good tanned head. Aroma is toasted caramel, fruitcake and a little coffee. Tastes of toasted malts, little woody notes, and perhaps a hint of chocolate malt. Moderate sweetness. Nice hoppy bitterness. Smooth mouth feel. After taste is light bitter roasted linger. 5,1% strength.

Overall: A good enjoyable premium bitter.

Tsingtao Beer

Pours a clear pale golden colour with short lasting white head. Aroma is floral hops, corn and a little barley. Tastes similar to pilsners from main land Europe. Sweet malts and corn. Slightly metallic hint. Soft watery mouth feel.  After taste is dry and clean. 4,7% strength.

Rating: Not bad.

Overall: Nothing special, but surprisingly its a damn refreshing lager.

Jennings Cumberland Ale

Pours a clear golden amber colour with a little short lived head. Aroma is floral hops, caramel malts and a slight metallic tang. Tastes of sweet caramel and biscuit - bread notes. After taste has a good bitterness linger. 4,7% strength.

Rating: Okay.

Overall: Average bitter.

Leffe Brune

Pours a clear deep red colour with a good white head. Aroma is fruits, chocolate and burnt caramel malt. Tastes simpler than its aroma and appearance. Sweet toasted malt with slight raisins-cherry fruit hint. After taste, though malt dominated, has a nice bitter taste. 6,5% strength.

Rating: Good.

Overall: Would be great to see this stronger and possibly more concentrated, however its an enjoyable Belgium beer.

St Austell Cornish IPA

Pours a very light copper, golden, colour with a thin white head. Aroma is citrus pine hops with fruits. Medium body. Tastes of citrus hops, light biscuit malt and spice notes. After taste is a well balanced clean bitterness. 5% strength.

Rating: Good.

Overall: Nice IPA.

Holts Humdinger

Pours a copper colour with a thin white head. Aroma is toasted malts, honey and a little cirtus hop notes. Light-Medium body.  Smooth texture. Taste is mostly honey with citrus hops. After taste is a short cirtus hop dry bitterness. 4% strength.

Rating: Not bad.
